About

Access to and Discoverability of Knowledge:
I’ve been involved in developing and implementing electronic publishing systems designed to enhance access to and discoverability of published resources. My work includes research on open access, institutional repositories, and digital asset management. I enjoy partnering with librarians and technology professionals to make the link between scientific information and systems for communicating it.

Participatory Publishing:
I use the model of “participatory publishing” to advance the understanding and practice of audience interaction and social learning that can take place around published resources. I have led educational social media initiatives and write about opportunities for new media in educational publishing in the blog Electronic Papyrus.

Agricultural/Natural Resource Communications:
Much of my work has been within agricultural communications, including my current position in the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences and my previous post as director of publications at the Soil and Water Conservation Society. I’ve written about the role of communication in creating change in agriculture and the communication driver of the conservation movement.
